No, non sono eroine antimafia. Ma donne che si ribellano. Donne nate e cresciute nei clan calabresi che, per liberarsi e liberare i loro figli dalla schiavitù del familismo delinquenziale, scappano e cercano di farsi un’altra vita. Con l’aiuto e, purtroppo in certi casi, senza sufficiente aiuto della giustizia e dello Stato. Questa è la fiction “The Good Mothers”, disponibile da oggi su Disney+ , premiata al Festival di Berlino, che - ve lo assicuriamo - va vista. Non solo perché è interessante, non solo perché riporta l’attenzione su mondi e vicende oscure, ma anche perché è adrenalinica, avvincente, ottimamente realizzata.
E’ interpretata da regine della fiction: Micaela Ramazzotti nel ruolo di Lea Garofalo, Valentina Bellè in quello di Giuseppina Pesce, Simona Distefano in quello di Maria Concetta Cacciola e Gaia Girace nel ruolo di Denise, figlia di Lea Garofalo. Diretta da Elisa Amoruso e Julian Jarrold, è tratta dal libro omonimo di Alex Perry (e ci voleva un giornalista inglese per indagare sulle storie di casa nostra).
“La serie tratta la ‘ndrangheta da un punto di vista abbastanza inedito quello femminile - spiega il regista, britannico anche lui, già dietro le telecamere in serie come “The Crown” -. Mostra come vivono le donne nella mafia calabrese, la più pericolosa e impenetrabile del mondo. E il percorso che fanno i magistrati nel capire che per scardinare il muro di omertà bisogna puntare su di loro”.
Delle tre vicende raccontate la più nota è quella di Lea Garofalo (Ramazzotti): è stata la prima vera testimone di ‘ndrangheta, cercò di ribellarsi alla sua famiglia soprattutto per salvare la figlia Denise (Girace) da un destino segnato di moglie e madre di delinquenti. Dopo una complicato rapporto con i magistrati (non era tecnicamente una pentita), alla fine quando uscì dal programma di protezione (e ci sono state molte polemiche su questo) venne uccisa dal compagno Carlo Cosco che, per i codici mafiosi, non poteva “perdonare” il tradimento. La denuncia della figlia poi portò allo storico processo contro gli assassini a Milano. Lea è sepolta al Famedio, tra i grandi della città.
La serie ripercorre poi in contemporanea (i fatti cruciali si svolgono tra il 2009 e il 2012) le vicende di altre due testimoni di giustizia: Giusy Pesce (Bellè) e la sua amica Cacciola (Distefano). Due storie simili, finite in maniera diversa: entrambe di famiglia mafiosa, fatte sposare giovanissime, con tre figli, padri e mariti soggioganti e violenti. La prima, coinvolta personalmente nel traffico di droga, dopo molti tentennamenti decide di parlare perché, arrestata con l’amante, sa che non sarà mai perdonata: grazie a lei si è arrivati a una delle più grandi operazioni (All Inside 2) contro la criminalità calabrese. Ora vive protetta con i figli. La seconda, invece, è morta dopo aver ingerito acido muriatico: dopo aver tentato di accreditare la tesi del suicidio, i familiari sono stati condannati per il reato di “morte come conseguenza del delitto di maltrattamento”.
“Le due donne vengono convinte a collaborare con la giustizia da una magistrata arrivata in Calabria nell’anno in cui muore Lea, che capisce che per abbattere i clan bisogna puntare sulle loro donne e sul loro desiderio di libertà, per sé e per i figli”, spiega l’altra regista, Amoruso. Vivono in un mondo patriarcale e tribale che sembra medievale e invece le vicende raccontate sono solo di un decennio fa. E, in alcuni posti, non molto diverse da quanto accade ancora oggi.
“Questa serie è importante - aggiunge la regista - perché parla di queste donne schiave e lo fa senza glorificare la violenza come è stato fatto, invece, in altre fiction”. Ed è anche “un messaggio di speranza - aggiunge la Ramazzotti - mi piacerebbe che riuscisse a dare a tante altre donne il coraggio di ribellarsi a certi ambienti feroci in cui nascono e crescono”. La forza, alle donne, la danno soprattutto i figli, che sono il capitale sociale della ‘ndrangheta, l’esercito del male che va continuamente rimpolpato. “La pm capisce - spiega Barbara Chichiarelli che interpreta la magistrata (chiamata nella serie Anna Colace) - che la paura degli ‘ndranghetisti non è solo che le loro donne rivelino qualcosa di importante ma che diventino un esempio per le altre”.
Forse questa serie non riuscirà a convincere altre donne - immerse nella mentalità mafiosa - a trovare il coraggio immenso per serve per ribellarsi, però comunque accende un faro, un lumicino. E, a dare loro aiuto, c’è soprattutto un progetto elaborato dall’associazione Libera (di Don Ciotti) in collaborazione con la Dna (Direzione nazionale antimafia) per arrivare a una legge che protegga tutte le donne che decidono di lasciare la mafia, di scappare, anche se non hanno la forza di raccontare fatti concreti (o non ne sono a conoscenza) e non denunciano i familiari. In questo modo si potrebbero sottrarre ai clan, salvando anche i figli. Lea riuscì nel secondo scopo, non salvò sé stessa.
